| Description | On May 10th 2020, officers Ronald Ammerman and Michael Scheu pulled over Quentin Suttles, then 30, for driving the wrong way down a one-way street. The officers, claiming they smelled marijuana, asked Suttles to exit his vehicle. He complied. When the officers began to frisk him, Suttles complied and the officers responded with violence, as captured by bystanders in a video subsequently posted on social media. The video shows Ammerman repeatedly punching Suttles in the face, while he and another officer had him pinned to the ground. Quentin Suttles sustained serious injuries. OutcomeThe Monroe County District Attorney, appointed as special prosecutor to investigate the incident, declined to press charges. Suttles sued in federal court in August 2021 — one of two civil rights actions Suttles has pending against the city and police. |
