On the evening of July 11th, 2026, Buffalo police deputy commissioner Craig Macy was working on Chippewa Street. Around 11:50PM, an altercation took place, and Macy leading a pack of officers dove into the altercation. Based on Body Worn Camera, at least two individuals were dragged away by officers, as bystander video shows people appear to separate to avoid being dragged away. As people try to regain their footing, a Black woman turned to the sidewalk where Macy was. She then clearly steps onto the sidewalk to navigate around Macy, with zero indication that she was trying to engage Macy in anyway. With complete disregard for the safety of the woman and those around her, Macy forcefully shoved the woman to the cement sidewalk and then walks away without checking on her.
Outcome
The use of force by Macy has been referred to internal affairs which has a history of not holding officers accountable. Macy is still on the job and has not been placed on administrative leave or faced any other disciplinary action. |
